Raise the Torch

The lighting of the Olympic flame began in Ancient Greece
The flame, ignited by the sun became a symbol of peace
It called the world to lay down arms for the spirit of the games
And for a moment there was peace and the warmth of the flame

Sisterhood and Brotherhood from around the world they came
One by one they carried their torch and passed the burning flame
A peaceful journey had begun they shared a common ground
lluminated by the light the crowds would resound

Raise the torch light the way for all the world to see
Call the world to lay down arms for all humanity

A veteran from Vietnam was riding in his chair
Carried the torch remembering the pain of his nightmare
A child was walking with a cane determined by her quest
To carry the torch all the way she never stopped to rest

Raise the torch light the way for all the world to see
Call the world to lay down arms for solidarity

Raise the torch ....we will see
Peace....... is our destiny

The passing of the flame had sparked a million tearful eyes
People from all walks of life had come to realize
Reflections of the flame will fade and there will come a time
When peace is not just for the games but for all humankind

Raise the torch light the way for all the world to see
Call the world to lay down arms let it be our destiny
Raise the torch light the way for all the world to see
Call the world to lay down arms let it be our destiny

Call the world to lay down arms......
